Chill! Be Happy!

If life were a movie, most of us spend way too much time stuck in the suspense genre – overthinking, worrying, and waiting for the next dramatic twist. But what if we decided to switch channels? Chill! Be Happy! What if life could be more of a comedy-drama…with extra popcorn?

That’s really what “Chill! Be Happy!” is all about: remembering that life, in all its messiness, is still a wonderful thing. And the secret isn’t about chasing perfection – it’s about enjoying every quirky, unpolished, unpredictable moment.

Happiness Hack #1: Chill! Be Happy! Don’t Take Everything So Seriously

Life is important, yes. But it’s not that serious. Nobody gets out alive anyway. The truth is, every “big problem” you faced years ago is probably something you laugh about now – or at least a funny story you tell at dinner.

Think about it:

  • That time you spilled coffee on your shirt before a meeting? A comedy sketch.
  • That awkward reply-all email? Classic sitcom material.
  • That random text experiment I did? Let’s talk about that.

The “Tell Me a Joke” Experiment

One day, I decided to test how people react to life’s randomness. I picked up my phone and sent a simple message to a bunch of friends:

 “Tell me a joke.”

No context. No explanation. Just pure randomness.

The responses? Pure comedy gold:

  • Team Confusion. Most came back with: “Huh?” … or the classic, “Why?” Apparently, people need a briefing before they can laugh.
  • Team Funny. A few champions rose to the occasion—sharing inside jokes, funny one-liners, or hilarious memories we once shared. These responses were like little gifts of joy.
  • Team Ghost. And then there are the ones who still haven’t replied. I’m not sure if they’re still searching for the perfect punchline…or if they’re ignoring me until further notice.
  • Of course there is one who is so adorable telling me she doesn’t have one at the moment and one even personally called me to check if I am ok:) .

What did I learn? That happiness often comes from how you respond to randomness. Some freeze, some laugh, some join in the game. And honestly, the people who laughed? They reminded me that humor is what makes life sparkle.

Then again, timing could be everything too! If the text got them at a wrong time, I understand why there was no immediate response from some. Sometimes, life gets in the way!

My niece sent me this riddle! Can you solve it?

When does a joke become a dad joke? — see end of the post for the answer.

Happiness Hack #2: Find Joy in Small, Silly Things

You don’t need a grand vacation, a new car, or a lottery win to be happy. Though of course I am still trying my chances with lottery, in case I strike big sometime soon.  But, seriously (pun intended), joy hides in plain sight:

  • The smell of coffee in the morning.
  • The breeze when you open a window.
  • The one friend who replies to your weird texts with an even weirder meme.

Happiness isn’t about big milestones—it’s about noticing the small confetti moments scattered through your day.

Happiness Hack #3: Share the Laughter

Happiness multiplies when shared. One joke, one silly dance, or even one random text can brighten someone else’s day (and yours too). The funny part? Sometimes people won’t get it. Sometimes they’ll ask, “Why?” And sometimes they’ll ignore you completely. That’s okay! The point is that you tried to share lightness.

Because the real magic isn’t in the perfect response – it’s in daring to create the moment.

Happiness Hack #4: Chill First, Then Be Happy

It’s hard to laugh when you’re stressed out of your mind. That’s why chilling is the first step to happiness. It doesn’t mean you have to escape to a spa retreat (though, if you get invited, call me). It can be as simple as:

  • Taking three deep breaths or breathing exercises🙂
  • Walking barefoot on grass.
  • Smiling at a silly memory.
  • Eating something light and simple.

Chilling resets your mind, lowers your stress, and makes you ready to actually enjoy happiness instead of overthinking it.

The Big Chill Pill Reminder

At the end of the day, life is wonderfully weird. People will confuse you. Some will ignore you. Some will laugh with you until your stomach hurts. That’s what makes it beautiful.

So here’s your reminder:

Because life isn’t about waiting for the right moment – it’s about making every moment the right one.

……. When it become a-pparent!

So go ahead: Chill! Be Happy! And if all else fails… send me a random text. (Just don’t be surprised if I reply with, “Knock knock.”).
